File Transfer Protocol
FTP (File Transfer Protocol), a standard Internet protocol, is the simplest way to exchange files between computers on the Internet. FTP is commonly used to transfer Web page files between the creator's computer and the hosting server. It's also commonly used to download programs and other files to your computer from other servers.

Download WS_FTP
You can download WS_FTP from this location:
ftp://ftp.knology.net/download/supported/windows/wsftp/ws_ftple.exe

Uploading your files
To post your pages on our web server, you'll need to upload them using an FTP program. To upload your files using WS_FTP, follow these steps:
1.Open WS_FTP.
2.If the "Session Properties" box did not pop up, click on the "Connect" button to open it.
3.Under the "General" tab, you will need to enter the following information:
Profile Name: Knology Web
Host Name: www.knology.net
Host Type: Automatic detect
User ID: YourUserName
Password: YourPassword
4.Note: The underlined information above will be supplied by a Customer Service Representative upon the creation of your account since it is unique to each customer.
5.Click "Ok". You will be directed to your webspace once connected to our server. When posting your webpages, you will need to place the files in the "public_html" folder in order for outside surfers to view your pages.
6.To upload a file from your computer to your web site, select the file on your computer (on the left) then click on the "->" (right arrow) button and it will be transferred to your web space (on the right).
7.To download a file to your computer from your web site, select the file on your web space (on the right) then click on the "<-" (left arrow) button and it will be transferred to your computer (on the left).
8.When you are done transferring files, click on the "Close" button (at the bottom) to end the session.

FTP Port Number
To connect to our web server, you'll need to connect to the standard FTP port of 21.

The URL for your Knology webspace will be in the form:
http://www.knology.net/~username
Even though WS_FTP (the FTP program supported by Knology) offers an option to save your password between sessions, we recommend writing your case-sensitive username and password down and storing it in a safe place.

Microsoft FrontPage
While Knology does not provide technical support for this program, our web server does support FrontPage extensions. When configuring Microsoft FrontPage to connect and upload files, the "publish to" address must be configured in the following format:
http://www.knology.net/~username
The tilde(~) must be included in the address line or Microsoft FrontPage will fail to connect.
